Poverty Reduction

  • In anticipation of Samoa’s transition from Least Developed Country (LDC) to Middle Income Country (MIC) status by January 2014, and the need to identify and cultivate new streams of national revenue collection and pathways towards achieving the MDGs, the project will draw together all existing and planned strategic iniatives supported by UNDP in the areas of pro-poor policy advisory services, trade policy development and implementation; and increasing Parliamentarians focus on MDGs achievement.

  • This Programme was developed by the Government of Samoa and the UN system based on the Samoa National Youth Policy and SDS 2002-04.

  • Improving both the growth and profitability of the private sector in Samoa is targeted by government and development partners in this project.

Democratic Governance

  • The SPSP is implemented under the umbrella of the MDGs Acceleration Programme, with financial support of the Government of Samoa and AUSAID.

Women's Empowerment

  • Implemented in the villages of Atafu, Fakaofo, Nukunofu and Taupulega villages, the CCSDP enables community members to organize collective action, by pooling resources and building solidarity towards resolving common problems and achieving a shared vision for community advancement.

  • The Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development (MWCSD) together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will host three successive trainings on the Transformational Leadership Development Programme (TLDP) to address gender equality.

  • Ahead of the 2016 general elections, the IPPWS project aims to increase community awareness of the importance of ensuring women are able to influence the national development processes through increasing their opportunities for political leadership amongst others.

  • This ‘Women in Leadership in Samoa’ (WILS) Project (the ‘Project’) seeks to build and reinforce progress already made on gender equality and women’s leadership in Samoa. It is Phase II of the Increasing Political Participation of Women in Samoa (IPPWS) Project implemented for 18 months from 2015 to 2016. The IPPWS was in response to the 2013 constitutional amendment mandating reserved seats for female candidates. Building on the lessons learnt from Phase I, the Project contributes to ongoing efforts aimed at improving gender equality and women’s leadership in Samoa.
