Javier Arturo Hernández Rosas, a UN Online Volunteer from Colombia, designed 6 pull-up banners for the Small Grant Programme (SGP) to showcase its activities in Samoa during the International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS), held on 1st of September 2014.

In order to strengthen the existing partnership with key stakeholders as well as build new partnerships to accelerate sustainable development in the Small Island Developing States, the Small Grants Programme organized throughout the conference a number of events, panel discussions and exhibitions, where the materials designed by Javier were displayed. Based on the positive reception of the materials by the attendees to the Conference, SGP now plans to use these materials at future events to promote its projects.

Javier, a professional industrial designer with an associate degree in Consumer Psychology, registered on the UNV Online Volunteering service in June 2014. While working for his own start-up, Javier has applied to 6 online volunteering opportunities as he wished to “participate, contribute and collaborate to projects that are related to the three important components of human being: necessities, capabilities and motivations.” He believes that volunteering online for projects across the world allows him to gain awareness of issues other countries face, experience different cultures and points of view or values, all of which helps him broaden his understanding of world.

* The UNV Online Volunteering service is a free service that puts volunteers into contact with organizations worldwide to work together for peace and development – over the Internet.
