    For commemorating the 70th anniversary, all Apia-based UN agencies have joined efforts to organize two events, an open day with students and a roundtable with the private sector. “The aim of both events is to raise awareness on the work the UN agencies are doing at national level as well as in other Pacific Islands Countries” said Ms. Lizbeth Cullity, United Resident Coordinator for the Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa and Tokelau.

  • Global Event Turns The World UN Blue to mark 70th anniversary of the United Nations Oct 25, 2015

    World famous landmarks from Australia’s Sydney Opera House to the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, from the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro to the Empire State Building in New York, were lit blue. Other participants include Russia’s Hermitage Museum, the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, Edinburgh Castle and Central Hall Westminster in the United Kingdom, Table Mountain in South Africa, Japan’s Sky Tree Tower and the Alhambra in Spain, among many others. Samoa was the only Pacific Island Country to joint this global campaign.

  • Celebrities paopao “Race Against Time” remind us that is now time to tackle climate change Sep 29, 2015

    The initiative, called Race Against Time is part of the Vailima Alo Paopao Festival, Samoa’s primer international outrigger event. The aim of the competition is to raise awareness on the actions people need to take to contribute to the global fight against climate change. In a world where we continue polluting, burning fossil fuels and emitting greenhouse gases, Alo Paopao brings back the use of traditional canoes that does not require any fuel.
